EV Charging Solution

EV Charging Solution

With an estimated 6.6 million households without access to off-street parking, convenient at-home charging remains a barrier to EV adoption for residents throughout the UK Many EV users look to take advantage of night-time tariffs. However, the problems created when running electric car charging cables across the pavement are only exacerbated at night time. It’s not only a nuisance, but it’s also a serious trip hazard for pedestrians whilst limiting access for pushchair, mobility, and wheelchair users. Even in bright sunshine, the hazards remain. Up and down the country, councils are attempting to address this issue and several possible solutions have appeared on the market. The most promising is Gul-e – a pavement channel designed and engineered by ODS in collaboration with Oxfordshire County Council.

Partners

Gul-e is actively engaged with various partners, including Local Authorities and Housing Developers to trial and implement the innovation. Among the esteemed collaborators are renowned housing developers such as Bloor Homes, Redrow Homes and Legal & General Homes.

Additionally, Gul-e has established partnerships with several Local Authorities, including Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council, Central Bedfordshire, London Borough of Bromley, Solihull Council, Buckinghamshire County Council, Surrey County Council, and the large charity Motability. This collective initiative reflects the commitment to diverse stakeholders, and to showcase the effectiveness and adaptability of the Gul-e.

Testing

Gul-e has undergone rigorous testing, ensuring alignment with safety and standards considerations. Independently lab-tested over several years, Gul-e meets the C250 Rating, ‘Low Slip Potential’ classification, and adheres to standards such as BS-EN-1433 for slot width in pedestrianised areas and boasts a C250 Load Weighting (25 tonnes).

Moreover, the product is corrosion-resistant, coated according to BS EN ISO 9000-2015 and BS EN ISO 1461. This comprehensive testing ensures Gul-e’s compliance with industry standards and makes it a durable and safe choice for public footpaths.

Town & Parish Council Support

Easy to Use

The charging cable can be easily fed into the channel from a charging point located at the resident’s property. The integrated brush prevents debris from falling into the gully whilst allowing easy cable entry. Pedestrians can walk freely over Gul-e with little risk of tripping over.
