Former Labour Health Minister claimed “No” Covid cases in UK

Responding to the Chief Medical Officer saying at the UK Covid Inquiry that the Labour Health Minister during the pandemic, “can’t be [right]” when Vaughan Gething incorrectly told Wales’ first Covid cabinet meeting that “there had been no imported cases into the UK”, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:

“It is astounding that Labour’s Health Minister, who now wants to be our First Minister, got this basic fact wrong.

“We know that Vaughan Gething hadn’t read his pandemic preparedness papers until he needed to revise for this Inquiry. The fact that he wasn’t aware of Covid’s arrival into the UK when others were preparing is very telling.

“The Welsh Conservatives still believe that an independent Wales-specific Covid Inquiry would be the best route to scrutinise the decisions of the Welsh Government and give the people of Wales the answers they deserve.”
