Rhigos Mountain Road UPDATE 17/8 / Limited reopening of Maerdy Mountain Road

Maerdy Mountain Road is OPEN between the hours of 4pm-9.30am each day, starting from TODAY. It will be CLOSED every day between 9.30am-4pm to allow important works to continue. Please be aware, two sets of traffic lights will be in place due to the ongoing work, delays should be expected.

Heavy machinery has been removed from Maerdy Mountain which has allowed us to reopen the road in a limited capacity. This has not been possible until now. 

Rhigos Mountain Road remains CLOSED TO ALL USERS until further notice. Access to Zip World Tower via Hirwaun side remains open.

Specialist rope access contractors are still on site, removing a significant amount of loose material from the mountainside.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate residents support while we work to reopen the road.

We will provide further updates when more information becomes available.

Rhigos Mountain Road will remain CLOSED until further notice and we will continue to update daily. Access to Zip World Tower via Hirwaun side remains open.

Specialist rope access contractors are currently on site, removing loose material and inspecting netting to access full scale of damage.

We have received reports of individuals running and cycling over Rhigos Mountain Road – the route is extremely dangerous, with rocks falling down into the road. A reminder that the road is CLOSED TO ALL USERS. Do not attempt to access it.

Emergency work is underway to make the area safe and concrete barriers are being placed to protect passing traffic once these works are completed.

To improve journeys, Maerdy Mountain Road will OPEN between the hours of 4pm and 9:30am each day, staring from 4pm on Wednesday, August 17. It will be CLOSED between 9:30am to 4pm to allow important works to continue. Please be aware that two sets of traffic lights will be in place due to the ongoing works so motorists should allow extra time for their journeys.
