Remember, remember the elderly this November

A WELSH care firm is reminding anyone holding Bonfire night parties and letting off fireworks this November (2016) to be considerate with regards the elderly and vulnerable.

Abacare is asking people to spare a thought for any elderly neighbours before letting off any loud fireworks and make them aware of any celebrations going on.

Peter Angelides, CEO of the award-winning care provider, which has recently won a significant tender in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) and Merthyr Tydfil and has opened a new office at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, said: “The loud noises from fireworks can often frighten the elderly so we’re urging anyone who is planning a party or letting off fireworks to make elderly neighbours aware of any plans and ensure they will be ok with the noise levels.

“We will be making sure all of our service users are reassured on the night but wanted to spread the word so others can check on any older friends, relatives or neighbours they might have.

“It’s a good idea to choose a suitable time to let your fireworks off or light your bonfires, make sure to avoid loud noise after 11pm. Fireworks should be let off in an open space as the sound can bounce off buildings and enclosed spaces, frightening elderly people. We don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun but after all, fireworks are explosives and can be very dangerous.”
