“A Night to Remember” – new fire safety film premieres across Wales
The three Fire and Rescue services in Wales have been working in collaboration to create a new fire safety film which is due to premiere in schools across the country this autumn.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service came together with North Wales and Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Services to concentrate on ways of targeting youngsters in schools in a bid to reduce the number of fires and improve fire safety, be it in the home, outside, accidental or deliberate fires.
After months of concerted development work, a collection of innovative new educational resources is being launched in schools across Wales this autumn.
The resources include new workbooks and storyboards to aid in fire safety education, and the three Fire and Rescue services have been working closely with North Wales based TV company Cwmni Da in order to create the fire safety film which tackles a number of issues which have given rise to concerns to emergency services in the past.
The ‘A Night to Remember’ video will be targeted at young people in KS3, KS4 and KS5 from November onwards. The hard hitting film will address a variety of common issues amongst those in this age group, such as underage drinking, peer pressure, the effects of social media, bullying and reckless behaviour.
Speaking on behalf of all three Welsh Fire and Rescue services, Head of Community Safety and Partnerships at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Garry Davies said:
“This project recognises that it is not only a duty on us as Fire and Rescue services to tackle fire safety issues, but also to address other antisocial problems such as underage drinking, peer pressure, and the effects of social media – all topics which are highlighted in this new DVD.
“Our educationalists worked closely with Cwmni Da to create the film which we will be used in 11 to 18 year old classrooms across Wales, giving an insight not only into the dangers of reckless behaviour and deliberate fire setting, but also to what the consequences of these actions are, and how they affect the lives of people involved.”
The new DVD will be launched in coprehensive schools across South Wales later this month.
