Wales Air Ambulance is delighted to announce that this year’s Walk Wales fundraiser is back but
with a difference!
Do you want to give it a ‘try’ and ‘Walk Wales with ex-Wales rugby legend James Hook’? If so, put on
your walking shoes and take part in this year’s event, whether it’s in person or virtually.
James has a variety of options available to people who either want to go the whole distance of
walking 10 miles with him from Oxwich to Mumbles or a shorter route, in aid of the lifesaving
Charity.
Alternatively, you can choose the 3 mile route from Caswell Bay to Mumbles which is aimed at all
ages and is family friendly. You can also bring your dogs!
The 3-mile walk is a family friendly option so get together with your rugby team, school friends,
family and furry friends to do the last 3-mile stint with James.
Tie up those laces and join James on Saturday 7 June by walking 10 miles from Oxwich to Mumbles,
or 3 miles from Caswell Bay to Mumbles in aid of the lifesaving Charity.
If you’d like to take part in the 3-mile mass participation event with a rugby legend tickets are £10
per adult and £5 per child. Each participant will receive a medal.
Why don’t you give it a ‘try’ and raise lifesaving funds for Wales Air Ambulance, it’s set to be an epic
day!
Registration will take place at 1:30pm at Caswell Bay, on Saturday 7 June for the 3 mile event, and 10
am for the 10 mile event at Oxwich.
The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air
and its rapid response vehicles on the road.
There are three events as part for this year’s Walk Wales, if the terrain isn’t for you or you can’t
make it on the day, you can take part in Walk Wales with James Hook virtually by completing 60
miles during the month of June.
James will not only be taking on the in-person event but will also be challenging himself to the 60
miles during the month – sharing updates with those who are also taking part along the way. So,
whichever you choose, the virtual event, in person or both, you will be taking on Walk Wales with
James Hook raising vital funds for a lifesaving service.
It’s your walk, your way and every step makes a lifesaving difference!
The annual Walk Wales fundraiser allows participants to walk, jog or run, different distances each
year, whilst raising funds. So, if you’re feeling a bit unmotivated or are in need of a challenge, then
this is the event for you.
During the last five years the successful Walk Wales event has raised an incredible £119,000 for the
cause.
Walk Wales 2025 is open to people of all ages and the beauty of the virtual challenge allows
‘walkers’ the chance to either get out and about and explore Wales or to get their steps in at home,
doing gardening, taking the dog for a walk, or even walking up and down the stairs!
Nina Rice, Wales Air Ambulance’s Head of Fundraising High Value Partnerships, said: “Walk Wales is
wonderful fundraising initiative, which helps people keep fit whilst doing something good for the
people of Wales. We’re delighted that our ambassador James Hook is joining us in this year’s event.
This year is slightly different to usual, we have our popular virtual event as well as the ten-mile
terrain with James. The three-mile family and dog friendly option is a lovely way for family, friends,
sports groups or schools to get together to keep fit whilst raising funds for our cause.
“It is an exciting opportunity to get together with a former Welsh rugby legend, while supporting our
lifesaving service. James is a wonderful ambassador for our Charity and we’re extremely grateful for
his commitment in helping raise funds for our charity.
“These three event offer something for all ages, and we hope the people of Wales, once again, get
behind us to help us raise much-needed funds for our lifesaving charity. Let’s Walk Wales together!”
Entry to the ‘Walk Wales with James Hook’ in-person 10 mile event is £10, and participants are
expected to raise £50 sponsorship. They will then receive a free Wales Air Ambulance t-shirt when
they register at the event on the day.
Entry to the traditional month-long 60 miles Walk Wales virtual fundraiser is free of charge. Walkers
can claim a free t-shirt when they’ve raised £50 for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Participants for the virtual Walk Wales fundraiser will receive a medal if they raise £100 and their
name will go into a prize draw for an air base visit if they raise £150.
Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and, if
required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury. For
the patient, this can mean hours saved when compared to standard care and is proven to greatly
improve survival and early recovery.
This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions
and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.
As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the
length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.
If you’d like to take part in both the virtual and in-person challenge, please complete the registration
form for the ‘10 mile or 3-mile event’ and select yes to sign up to the virtual challenge via our
website

Please note, any children taking part in the in-person event will need to be accompanied by an adult.
