Reminder: Overnight Road Closure – A465 Between Cefn Coed (A470 Roundabout) and Hirwaun.
From 20:00hrs on Monday 19 until 06:00hrs on Tuesday 20 February 2024 there will be an overnight closure of the:
- A465 between Hirwaun and Cefn Coed
- New section of Swansea Road, Merthyr
- New Merthyr Road Roundabout, near Baverstock.
During this closure we will be moving A465 traffic onto the new part of Swansea Road. (See Illustration 1) This joins the new roundabout (A) at Merthyr Road.
Illustration 2 shows how all A465 traffic will travel between roundabout A (Merthyr Road) and roundabout B (Crematorium Road) in the new arrangement.
Please note at roundabout B there is also a turning for local access only. This does not connect on to the A465, it is a no through road. This turning should only be used by traffic needing access to and from the premises it services.
Temporarily moving the traffic onto Swansea Road gives us the space to construct the new dual carriageway in the area previously occupied by the old A465.
To achieve this, where the existing Swansea Road meets with the temporary A465 we will introduce a T-junction, with priority given to the A465 traffic.
Please note:
- A465 traffic travelling on Swansea Road will be travelling in both directions.
- Traffic using Swansea Road must give-way and can only join the A465 in a westbound direction towards Merthyr Road roundabout.
- At the Swansea Road T-Junction, there will be no right turn onto the A465.
- There will be no access from the A465 into the existing Swansea Road.
