Labour happy to ignore all-male teacher shortage
Responding to a written question answer from Labour’s Education Minister on male teacher recruitment, Laura Anne Jones MS, Shadow Education Minister, said:
“Labour claim to be doing all they can to solve the teacher shortage in Wales, yet once again they wash their hands of the responsibility of teacher recruitment.
“There is a worrying shortage of male teachers in Wales and young males being left behind as a result of fewer male role models in the classroom. Yet, Labour has created financial incentives to increase ethnic minority teachers but refuses to do the same for male teachers.
“Of course, it always needs to be the best person for the job, but action clearly needs to be taken to encourage men into teaching in Wales. The Welsh Conservatives would recruit 5,000 new teachers providing a much-needed boost to education in Wales and undo Labour’s 25 years of failing our children.”
