Deputy Minister refuses to rule out further speed limit restrictions
Commenting on her exchange with the Deputy Minister today in the chamber Welsh Conservative Shadow Transport Minister Natasha Asghar, MS said:
“The Deputy Minister is arrogant enough to claim ‘misinformation’ from the Welsh Conservatives, yet he himself is guilty of not only misinforming the public, but omitting key facts about this ludicrous policy.
“A further attempt was made by the Deputy Minister to explain the £9 billion hit to the Welsh economy and hide behind the figures. Yet, he has previously disagreed with the costings and claimed the facts were ‘discredited’ and he ‘did not believe it’, so how can he be so confident in them now?
“With the comparison being made with Spain, how reliable is the data that Labour are quoting, when you consider the limit was introduced there during COVID, when the country was shut down?
40mph, 50mph and national speed limits being reviewed
“I challenged the Deputy Minister on an email I have received from Wrexham council, addressing further speed limit changes on the horizon, with 40mph, 50mph and national speed limits being reviewed but as normal he completely ignored the question. This is deeply concerning going forward, as Labour continue to wage their anti-worker, anti-road and anti-motorist agenda.
“However, Labour and the Deputy Minister would rather ignore the true numbers and statistics, quoting small sample sizes that do not provide an accurate picture of the opposition to the policy. With the Welsh Conservatives forcing a vote in the Senedd tomorrow, we are speaking for the 66% of Wales who want this barmy policy scrapped.”
