A465 Construction at Trewaun Roundabout – Weekend Closure
Work at the Hirwaun (Trewaun) Roundabout and the surrounding roads is being undertaken in a series of phases. This allows us to minimise disruption during this complex construction work.
The following information provides details of the next phase of work being undertaken during the following weekend closure of the A465 between Hirwaun and Cefn Coed from 20:00hrs on Friday 21 April until 06:00hrs on Monday 24 April 2023.
During the closure, we will extend the temporary A465 to a new temporary roundabout that will be located to the west of the current layout at the Hirwaun (Trewaun) junction. This will replace the existing temporary roundabout.
The relocated roundabout and realignment of the A465 create the space needed for retaining structures to be built, and excavation work is to be undertaken to lower the ground level by about 8 metres at this location.

For traffic travelling to and from Aberdare
For traffic travelling to and from Aberdare, it will be possible to use the yellow route which runs along the A465 between the Rhigos and Hirwaun (Trewaun) roundabouts, where there will be temporary traffic lights in use which may cause some delays.
Please note that during the weekend there will be no access from the Hirwaun (Trewaun) roundabout onto the A465 eastbound towards Merthyr Tydfil.
For all other traffic wishing to travel between Rhigos and Merthyr Tydfil, the diversion will be via the A4059/A470 following the green route.
