Jail for Mountain Ash man a drug dealer who kept heroin hidden in his crutches

A man from Mountain Ash has been jailed for more than four years for possessing heroin with intent to supply.
Stephen Locke, 54, of Fernhill Road, Mountain Ash, was stopped and searched by police who followed his car into a patrol garage on Cardiff Road, Mountain Ash, on 27th September, 2018.
Officers carried out a search and they found heroin and cocaine inside the handles of two crutches.
In total, £900 in cash was seized along with heroin and cocaine worth nearly £1,000.
When questioned Stephen Locke claimed it was for personal use – he said he kept his drugs inside his crutches in case they fell out of his tracksuit bottoms.
Soon after he was charged with possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.
Locke was jailed for four years and six months at Merthyr Crown Court on Friday, September 27 after pleading not guilty.
Pc Davies, who stopped and searched Stephen Locke, said: “Rest assured we know who our usual suspects are and we are always out there looking for them. We spotted Locke and as soon as we approached his vehicle he looked anxious as we’d caught him red handed.
“I hope sentences such as this one sends a strong message that drug dealing won’t be tolerated, and also encourages people to come forward and tell us if they suspect drug dealing. We will take action.”
