RCT Residents who need to renew their concessionary bus passes

The Council will shortly host a series of dedicated sessions across all of its Libraries, where staff will be able to help residents renew their concessionary bus passes using the Transport for Wales website.

Transport for Wales is working with Welsh Government to roll out a ‘new-style’ Concessionary Travel Card across Wales by December 31, 2019. The existing green bus passes will work up until this date, and applications to renew each pass can be completed online – at www.tfw.wales/travelcards.

Renewing your bus pass is a simple task online. Transport for Wales advises that this is the easiest way for you to receive your new card, and that you can ask someone you trust to apply on your behalf using the online portal.

However, the Council has arranged to host a number of sessions where face-to-face help is available for those unable to complete the online application process. The upcoming sessions include:

  • Dedicated ‘help days’ in all Council Libraries every Tuesday, starting on October 8. Help will be available during normal Library opening hours. To find your nearest Library, and its opening hours, visit www.rctcbc.gov.uk/libraries. These Tuesday sessions will run alongside the existing Digital Friday sessions, held each Friday in local Libraries. Support will also be available from the Council’s Mobile Library, as part of its usual service.
  • Town Centre ‘roadshow’ events in November 2019. Further details about these community-based events, which will be held over a three-week period, will be communicated to local residents in due course.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “Transport for Wales is undergoing a national programme to replace 750,000 bus passes across Wales, and the Council would like to reassure local residents that help is on hand for those unable to complete the online application by themselves.

“This includes ‘face-to-face’ help in Libraries on Tuesdays and Fridays, when Council staff will be available to help residents through the online application. These begin on Tuesday, October 8, and everyone is welcome to attend.

“We’re also in the process of arranging dedicated Town Centre events over a three-week period during November, where the help available in Libraries will be extended into the wider community. Staff will help people complete their application using portable devices, which will be available at each event.

“There is plenty of time to complete your renewal, and I’d like to reassure our residents that their existing green bus passes will still work up until December 31.”
