Direction of Rail transport in Wales “delays, overcrowding and mismanagement” will it ever end?

The Welsh Labour Government has announced today their plans for rail in Wales over the next 20 years.

But Welsh Conservatives have said that the Welsh Labour Government must focus on addressing the current problems that commuters are facing.

Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport and Economy, Russell George AM, commented:

“The people of Wales don’t want to know that maybe in 20 years’ time they’ll be able to get a train direct to Heathrow airport. They want to know that their train to work is running on time, that they might be able to get a seat and that it won’t cost the earth to do it.”

Speaking in the Welsh Assembly today, Mr George, responded to the Minister’s statement:

"People are choosing not to use the railway network now because trains are so unreliable. The Welsh Labour Government already has many levers at its disposal in regard to passenger experience which has been consistently below par in recent times. We have seen cancelled trains, delayed trains, a lack of staff, overcrowding, signalling problems, short formed trains and a total lack of quality information to passengers when issues occur.”
