RCT Candidates back Parkinson’s UK calls.

Welsh Liberal Democrat candidates are backing a two pronged campaign by Parkinson's UK on behalf of the more than 127,000 people living with the condition in the UK.

The first calls for the continuation of vital life science partnerships with the EU, including collaboration with EU research programmes and alignment with the European Medicines Agency to make sure there is no delay in accessing new treatments.

It also states that

"We need an effective immigration system to allow research professionals and patients the ability to work across the EU and internationally."

Pontypridd candidate Mike Powell says

"All of this of course is part of what Liberal Democrats have been arguing all along. The benefits of being part of the European Union and having freedom of movement are far reaching, and the Conservatives hard Brexit will affect the people of Britain in so many ways.

"Hospitals such as the Royal Glamorgan rely heavily on medical staff from outside the UK and they do a fantastic job. Without them the NHS will be in even more of a sorry state than it is now."

Parkinson's UK are also asking candidates to commit to opposing any further cuts to disability benefits, again an easy pledge for Liberal Democrats to sign up to.

Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for the Rhondda, Karen Roberts, says

"The Liberal Democrats would go one further and reverse cuts to benefits for those who are unable to work or who need additional support because of difficulties they face due to conditions such as Parkinson's.

"The Conservatives will pursue this heartless agenda still further if given the opportunity. "
