The UK Budget has fallen short of delivering the economic rescue plan needed to support working families, protect Welsh agriculture and unlock economic growth in Merthyr, Jason O’Connell MS has warned.
While the Chancellor announced measures to ease some household costs, Jason says the Budget does not go far enough to tackle the pressures facing working people, businesses and rural communities.
For families across Pontypridd, Cynon, Merthyr the cost of everyday essentials remains a major concern. Workers need to keep more of their wages, businesses need the confidence to invest and expand, and local communities need a stronger economy that creates jobs and opportunities.
Jason O’Connell MS stated:
“Wales needs a comprehensive economic rescue plan, and this Budget has fallen far short of what working families and businesses need.
“People are still feeling the pressure of everyday costs, while businesses need greater support to grow and create jobs.
“Reform UK would raise the tax-free personal allowance to £15,000, putting more money back into the pockets of working people. We would also scrap the family farm tax to protect family farms and support Welsh food production.
“Merthyr has hardworking people and enormous potential, but they need a government that backs them with lower taxes, support for businesses and a clear plan for economic growth.
