The Welsh Conservatives have said Plaid Cymru must take responsibility for Wales’ struggling economy after years of backing Labour through coalition, cooperation agreements and budget deals.
The latest economic statistics show that the number of paid employees in Wales is falling faster than the overall UK level and economic inactivity continues to rise, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing the new Plaid Cymru Government.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said
“After 27 years of propping up Labour through coalition, cooperation agreements and budget deals, Plaid Cymru have now swapped places in the hot seat of power.
“These latest economic statistics are a direct consequence of the decisions Plaid Cymru supported while keeping Labour in Government in Cardiff Bay. With payroll employees falling and economic inactivity rising, Plaid now face a monumental challenge if they are serious about turning the Welsh economy around.
“The Welsh Conservatives will hold their feet to the fire to ensure Wales gets the economic growth, better job opportunities and stronger public services it deserves.”
