LOCAL MS WELCOMES DEFENCE CONTRACTOR MOVE TO MERTHYR TYDFIL

Jason O’Connell MS, for Pontypridd, Cynon and Merthyr, has welcomed the decision by Marshall Land Systems to relocate operations to Merthyr Tydfil, describing it as a major vote of confidence in South Wales and its skilled workforce.

Marshall Land Systems announced it plans to complete the move by 31 March 2027, following its sale to Canadian investment firm Flowing River Capital Partners last year.

Commenting on the announcement, Jason O’Connell said:

“This is a significant investment in Merthyr Tydfil and a clear sign that Wales can compete for major manufacturing jobs and defence industry opportunities.

“While any job losses are deeply regrettable and my thoughts are with those affected, the arrival of Marshall Land Systems will bring long-term economic benefits, skilled employment and new opportunities for communities across South Wales.

“We must now ensure Welsh workers and local businesses fully benefit from this investment and that Merthyr becomes a leading hub for advanced manufacturing and defence engineering.”

The company said the move would reduce costs and improve the long-term sustainability of the business. A consultation process affecting employees and contractors has now begun.
