Email to AberdareOnline from a Cwmbach resident
I am reporting this issue here as the council have disabled the report or request a pedestrian crossing portal on their website. The area of the car park outside, adjacent to the Coop store on Canal Road, Cwmbach, has a dangerous entrance meeting the main road with an open pavement crossing it. Although technically there is a walkway on the periphery of the car park, this is impractical due to parking on that path. There are no markings, signs, labels, or lights on the pavement or roadside indicating that this is a pedestrian crossing or guidance for pedestrians or drivers on how to cross the footpath. For now its a matter of whether drivers know the law on procedure. There is also the problem that this straight road is a favourite of “boy racers” who like to test if their cars are working by going over 60mph down it. Large lorries also chug their way in, including builders’ lorries, coop juggernauts, not only to the carpark, but block the pavements, and seek access to the demolition yard opposite. I also witnessed a few days ago that the blind assistance bumpy cobbles were dug up, presumably by a contractor to the council or coop and were not replaced. Maybe the council is planning something and is in legal dispute with Coop, perhaps, but for now this is a dangerous area for young old and animal also drivers. I am sure there have been accidents here, as the computer says so. If the council can be bothered to put up flood plain warning signs on Ynyscynon Fields recently, I’m sure you can manage something practical here, just paint some white lines on at least
