Aberdare man honoured in S4C programme

An Aberdare man will be honoured as part of a new programme on S4C.

Cymry Waw! celebrates extraordinary people across Wales who are making a difference.

Among those is Anthony Trow, described as one of the unsung heroes of the Valleys.

After a difficult childhood, Anthony is determined that no child will face what he faced.

He works in the local secondary school to offer support to children through life’s adversities.

He also runs a boxing gym at the heart of the Penrhiwceiber community, with a low entry fee to ensure that children who need an escape can afford to come through the doors.

With Christmas on the horizon, Anthony also helps out Santa and attends local events to make sure that no child goes without a present to open.

In addition to his already busy schedule, he’s a bit of a handyman in his area, undertaking jobs for free for those who cannot afford to.

Anthony said:  “Every child deserves to have something and feel the magic of Christmas.

“My start in life wasn’t easy, my brothers and I grew up with hardly anything…I just feel for everyone and want to make sure everyone gets what they deserve.”

One of his pupils said “Mr Trow gives us the confidence to be the people we are now” and another said that he “makes everyone feel at home”.

Cymry Waw! will air on S4C on Friday 19 December at 20.00 and will be available to watch on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.
