Extended road closure at the bridge at Goitre-Coed Road in Abercynon

The road closure at the pictured bridge at Goitre-Coed Road in Abercynon to complete a repair and maintenance scheme has been extended into next week (commencing March 10) due to unforeseen additional repairs required after removal of existing bridge deck joint. Updates will be announced once the bridge is opened. We apologise for this inconvenience.

The Royal Oak Bridge will remain closed with a signposted diversion route alternative in place. Please note, the diversion route is partly located in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough through Quakers Yard.

An alternative route for motorists is via Fairview Terrace, Lock Street, Glancynon Terrace, B4275, A4054, Fiddler’s Elbow Roundabout, Cardiff Road, Rodericks Terrace, and Goitre-Coed Road.

A map showing this route, and the closure area, has been included on the Council’s website, here: https://orlo.uk/sIGnD

Access will not be maintained for emergency service vehicles, but will be maintained for pedestrians and to premises. Cyclists are advised to dismount and use the pedestrian access.

Please note, while Royal Oak Bridge provides a crossing above the A4059, there will be no disruption to this major commuter route.

The scheme is being delivered using Council revenue funding.

Thanks to residents and road users in advance for your cooperation.
