Closure of the Taff Trail Bridge over the A465 at Cefn Coed.

As part of the construction work to upgrade the A465 between Hirwaun and Dowlais, the Taff Trail bridge at Cefn Coed needs to be closed and then demolished. This is to allow the cutting to be widened to accommodate the new full dual carriageway at this location.  A new multi-user bridge will be constructed to replace the existing bridge.

An application has been made to Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council for a closure of the bridge and the path leading to it. This is planned to commence on Monday, 9 January 2023.

Due to the topography of the area the options for alternative crossing points and diversions are limited, and as a result, during the closure pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to use the temporary footbridge at High Street in Cefn Coed. Please note, cyclists will need to dismount in order to use this bridge. There is no alternative route for equestrians.

This diversion will be in place: www.a465.org/TafTrailBridgeDiversion

We will advise you as soon as the new bridge is complete and ready for service.

We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause.
