Penrhiwfer AFC thank Pennant Walters for support through the winter
Penrhiwfer AFC is thanking Pennant Walters for its support through the winter months which has allowed them to continue training so that they can finish the season on a high.
The team, which has been in existence for over 50 years, plays its home fixtures at the Queen Elizabeth 2 field but was looking for financial support to fund a winter training venue so that it didn’t have to pass on the costs to its players.
Pennant Walters stepped in to provide money to cover the winter venue hire at Tylorstown Sports Centre from a fund linked to its planned Mynydd y Glyn wind farm which, if consent is given, will be situated in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Dean Perry, Club Secretary at Penrhiwfer AFC, explains:
“As a club we run on the generosity of local companies that sponsor us each year and without it the club simply wouldn’t exist.
“We are so grateful for Pennant Walters support during this past winter. With the weather as bad as it’s been, we simply wouldn’t have been able to train, and this would have certainly impacted our players and the wider team.”
The club has a long-term aim of building its own local facility to benefit the wider community and which would allow them to establish both children’s and women’s sides.
Dean continued:
“This money from Pennant Walters, along with our other sponsors, means that we can continue with our mission of fundraising to allow us to build a facility locally. If we didn’t have such support, it would mean our fundraising would be absorbed with the running of the club.
“On behalf of everyone involved, I’d like to say a huge thank you.”
Pennant Walters managing director, Dale Hart, said:
“We support the long term aims of the Club and the positive impact this would have to the community and were happy to help out these last few months.
“Our wind energy project community fund exists to make a difference to the local communities in which we work.”
