Officers from the Go Safe Casualty Reduction Partnership were cracking down on the Fatal 5 as part of a month-long campaign.

They spotted the suspected stolen car, which failed to stop – prompting a pursuit involving roads policing and firearms officers from South Wales Police and colleagues from neighbouring Gwent Police.

With the police helicopter flying overhead, the car was tracked down and stopped using tactics carried out by specially trained roads policing officers.

Three males – aged 28, 16 and 14 – and a 21-year-old woman were all arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. The 16-year-old youth was also arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, aggravated vehicle theft, dangerous driving and other motoring offences.

All four are now on police bail while the investigation continues.

👉 The Fatal 5 are the biggest contributory factors in road traffic collisions resulting in deaths and serious injuries: Speeding, not wearing seatbelts, drink/drugs, use of mobile phones and careless/reckless driving.
