Farming: Conservatives support farmers, while Labour’s green blackmail risks thousands of jobs

Responding to the Prime Ministers’ announcement of £220 million to deploy new technology to boost productivity in the farming sector, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

“This announcement from the Prime Minister shows the chasm of difference between the Conservatives and Labour when it comes to supporting our farmers.

“While the Conservative UK Government is putting cash on the table to help our agricultural communities to continue to thrive, just yesterday the Labour First Minister was again revealing his contempt for our farmers by talking them down.

“It’s time for Labour to drop their scheme which will force farmers to give up huge amounts of their productive land to plant trees, which is an act of green blackmail that will cost thousands of farming jobs in Wales.”

First Minister Drakford’s naked contempt for our farmers

Responding to comments from the First Minister that farmers could not simply decide themselves what to do with millions in subsidies, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said:

“This statement shows the First Minister’s naked contempt for our farmers.

“Labour and Plaid Cymru fail to realise that no farmers means no food, as they sacrifice our agricultural communities at the altar of a fanatical green agenda.

“The Sustainable Farming Scheme has been rejected by the farming community and it is high time Labour and Plaid scrap this policy before it does irreversible damage to our rural communities.
