Nearly £12 million in crucial NHS funding may be going to over 100,000 ghost patients in GP surgeries

Nearly £12 million in crucial NHS funding may be going to over 100,000 ghost patients in GP surgeries

At the last census, there were 100,000 more Welsh resident patients registered at GP surgeries in Wales than there are people in Wales.

As GP surgeries are paid for patients on their lists, this means that nearly £12 million may be going towards ‘ghost patients’.

Russell George, Welsh Conservative Health spokesman, said:

“People across Wales will be shocked at the number of ghost patients registered at our GP surgeries.

“With our NHS struggling thanks to Labour mismanagement, it’s crucial that all money is spent carefully and where it is most needed.

“Welsh Government must address these missing patients so that precious funding can be allocated fairly.”
