Labour’s worst pay offer in the UK causing devastating NHS strikes in Wales

Junior doctors in Wales have announced new strike dates as part of the ongoing dispute over pay. The first, a 72-hour full walkout, will take place from Wednesday 21 February until Saturday 24 February. The second, a 96-hour full walkout, will happen between Monday 25th March to Friday 29 March.

As Welsh Labour plans for 36 more Senedd members to the Welsh government that will cost up to £120 million to implement, keep voting for Labour with no opposition you get what you vote for, how did the last 25 years of a one-party state go?

Commenting on the latest announcement on Welsh junior doctor strike action, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:

“The latest round of junior doctor strikes will devastate our Welsh NHS, because we already have the longest waits for treatment in the UK.

“In Conservative-run England, junior doctors have been offered a pay rise over double that of Labour-run Wales’ – Labour have consistently put the worst offer in the UK on the table, failing to meet the independent pay review body’s recommendation.

“The Welsh Conservatives would spend the full Barnett uplift received for health on health and would at least match the independent recommendation, the cost of which is lower than the cost of creating 36 more politicians.”
