NRW Chief to let water companies continue dumping sewage without consequence
Commenting on the news that the chief executive of Natural Resources Wales said taking firms to court would not achieve “environmental betterment at that point”, Welsh Conservative Shadow Climate Change Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:
“Unfortunately, Natural Resources Wales have got it wrong here, if water companies continue to dump sewage into our waterways, they should be punished. This is a fundamental problem with NRW dishing out the licences but also having to enforce them.
“With sewage spills into Welsh waters accounting for 25% of all discharges across Wales and England, water companies are spoiling Wales’ natural beauty and just to let them carry on regardless is foolish.
“Companies such as Dŵr Cymru must be held to account for the damage they are doing, if not for fines or prosecution, they will continue to dump without any incentive to stop.”
