Teaching is “not good enough in Welsh schools” says Chief Inspector of Education

Teaching is “not good enough in Welsh schools” says Chief Inspector of Education

Commenting on the news that teaching in schools across Wales is not good enough, following the Chief Inspector of Education’s comments in his interim annual report released today, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Minister, Laura Anne Jones MS said:

“It’s deeply concerning to see this report today. It highlights the serious failings of the Labour Government with the report highlighting concerns about literacy, numeracy, attendance and Welsh language in schools.

Labour have failed to recruit qualified teachers to teach in the medium of Welsh and have failed to ensure that there is sufficient funding for specialist staff to provide one-to-one support for ALN students in the medium of Welsh.

“This is about priorities and Welsh Labour’s priority is clearly not education. They’ve cut the education budget in real terms this year in order to fund their vanity projects, such as £120 million on more politicians in Cardiff Bay.

“They must now properly fund education in Wales and ensure schools are equipped with what they need in terms of staff and equipment, instead of continuously letting down pupils and parents. If not, we are only going to see more negative outcomes for our learners in Wales.”
