Labour Minister not interested in nuclear power

Today in the Senedd the Minister for Climate Change faced questions from the Welsh Conservative Shadow Climate Change Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders MS on nuclear power.

Commenting on the exchange, Janet Finch Saunders MS said:

“The UK needs four times as much clean power as we have now to hit Net Zero by 2050. I asked the Labour Climate Change Minister how she plans to work with the UK Government to boost nuclear energy at Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, which are ideally placed to be at the heart of a massive nuclear revival.

“Alongside exceptional access to grid capacity to supply power to around 2 million homes, the sites are ideally placed to develop and become host to over 400 high quality jobs locally, which is being boosted by the local and hardworking member of the UK Parliament, Virginia Crosbie MP.

“Unfortunately, the Minister’s answers indicated that she is not interested in Nuclear power. She tried to pass the buck, which is baffling considering her portfolio is climate change. I stressed that moving forward, we need to maintain the ambition to make the UK more self-sufficient in energy production.”
