Drakeford refuses three times to answer covid questions

Commenting on his exchange with Mark Drakeford at First Minister’s Questions today, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies MS said:

“Today I asked the First Minister three times whether it was the right decision to discharge patients from hospitals into social care settings as was Labour’s policy at the time of the Covid pandemic, despite a preparedness exercise warning of the risks of this approach.

Displaying an incredible level of arrogance unbecoming of his position as First Minister of Wales.

“Each and every time that I asked if he believed this was a risk too far, Mark Drakeford refused to engage with the line of questioning, displaying an incredible level of arrogance unbecoming of his position as First Minister of Wales.

Dodging scrutiny

“Despite the fact that the Welsh Parliament was created to scrutinise the decisions of the Welsh Government, Drakeford seems intent on making the process redundant by circumventing perfectly reasonable questions and dodging scrutiny at every turn.

“It remains the view of the Welsh Conservatives that the answers that bereaved families deserve are best obtained through an independent Welsh Covid inquiry and today’s exchange in the Senedd displays the need for one more than ever as Mark Drakeford’s response will leave many thinking that he has something to hide.”
