Welsh Conservative comment on “significant risks” in Cwm Taf Morgannwg

A Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) report has identified “significant risks” following a review of discharge arrangements from adult inpatient mental health units within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister Russell George MS said:

“These findings make for very distressing reading and only serve to deepen concerns that the problems that we have seen in North Wales health board – newly returned to special measures – extend to other parts of Wales.

“Again, we have another inspectorate report that details how a health board has failed to maintain good records and has not made sufficient progress in addressing problems and shortcoming previously identified in prior reviews.

“Labour’s Health Minister may protest that the health board must act to eliminate these significant risks, but she is not a passive actor in all this – she is the Minister and supposedly has the power and authority to drive and lead change, but we’re not just any of that.

“The Labour Government in Cardiff Bay need to get a grip on the NHS and stop breaking all the wrong records.”
