OVER 3,500 LOCAL PEOPLE JOIN IN THE RHONDDA CYNON TAF EISTEDDFOD LAUNCH CELEBRATIONS

More than 3,500 local people came to celebrate the launch of next year’s Rhondda Cynon Taf National Eisteddfod at The Lion in Treorchy over the weekend.

This was the first major event to raise awareness and encourage local people to join the Eisteddfod team for the next year and a half.  It follows an eighteen-month community project focusing on reaching hard-to-reach audiences and creating connections across Rhondda, Cynon and Taf.  Saturday’s festival was funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund – Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Community Grant.

And with the launch having taken place, organisers are now setting up the various committees to lead on awareness raising, organising local community events, fundraising, and working on the festival’s list of competitions to be published in June.

This work starts following a public meeting at the University of South Wales, Treforest, on Thursday 16 March at 19:00, where organisers will outline plans for the Eisteddfod itself, along with information on the individual committees.

Encouraging local people to come and help with the arrangements is a key part of the Eisteddfod’s work, and local Executive Committee Chair, Helen Prosser is keen for people of all ages to get involved.  She said, “We’ve all been inspired by the launch in Treorchy and look forward to creating the team here in Rhondda Cynon Taf to build on this success and create what will be a truly memorable National Eisteddfod in our area.

“Come and find out more about how you can help.  We need to bring together a friendly, committed and fun-loving group of people from across the region who want to get involved in all sorts of things, from coming up with competition ideas and suggesting sessions for festival week to helping us to organise local activities in our communities and villages and promoting our Eisteddfod to everyone in Rhondda Cynon Taf and further afield.”

The committees working on the list of competitions will meet on Saturday 18 March at 10:30, and this meeting will also be held at the University of South Wales, Treforest with members of the Eisteddfod’s central panels on hand to advise and help where needed.

We’re encouraging people to register to join a committee ahead of the meeting in Treforest.  Go to https://eisteddfod.wales/2024-subject-committees for more information and to register.
