Is the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay ashamed of its record, where 65,000 languish in pain for over two years? NO
Conservative Government shows Labour in Wales how to tackle NHS waiting times
The Welsh Conservatives have criticised the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay for failing to emulate the progress of NHS England in tackling severely long waits for treatment.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Health Minister Russell George MS said:
“What we have seen in NHS England is remarkable – to cut the longest waits from over 20,000 to almost nothing in a matter of months should make the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay ashamed of its record, where 65,000 languish in pain for over two years.
“The Conservatives have been able to deliver for patients and staff because it did not delay bringing in a Covid a recovery plan – when we suggested to Labour’s then-health minister he do the same, he said it would be foolish.
“Labour needs to get a grip on the NHS and stop breaking all the wrong records.”
According to NHS figures, the number of people in England waiting longer than two years for routine operations has fallen from 22,500 at the start of the year, to fewer than 200.
In addition to those 22,500, a further 43,500 who would have waited more than two years by the end of July had also been treated, NHS England said.
However, the number of people waiting over two years in Wales is 65,053. This is an increase from 9,775 since May 2021. The number in Wales has only fallen by little over 400 since its peak in March.
