VIGILANCE l BIKE THEFTS l TAFF TRAIL
Cyclists travelling along the Taff Trail in the #Llandaff and #LlandaffNortharea are urged to be vigilant following some unusual thefts.
Two cyclists have recently been flagged down by individuals claiming to need help, only to have their bikes stolen.
Details of the two incidents Saturday, September 26 at around 5.50pm near the rowing club, a man in his 20s stopped to help to help a teenage male who appeared to be having problems with his own bike.
The suspect, aged around 16 to 18, then rode off on the man’s #Enduroblack and green electric bike in the direction of #Radyr.
Saturday, October 3, at around 2pm, a 14-year-old boy had his bike stolen in Hailey Park by a man asking for help in finding his dog.
The teenager’s orange Scott bike was stolen but later found following an appeal on social media by his family.
Pc Helen Abdullahi from the #Fairwater Neighbourhood Police Team said:
The Taff Trail is a fantastic cycle route that is used safely by many members of the community each day.
So it is a real shame that we are now having to advise people to exercise caution when someone asks for help.
Enquiries have been carried out but unfortunately without the usual investigative opportunities such as CCTV and house to house enquiries, we as yet have not be able to identify those responsible.”
If anyone has information on these thefts please contact South Wales Policeon 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously quoting ref: *352733.
