First confirmed case of Coronavirus in Wales
Public Health Wales has today (February 28) confirmed the first case of Coronavirus in Wales. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Frank Atherton, said one patient had travelled back to Wales from northern Italy, where the virus was contracted.
The Shadow Health Minister – Angela Burns AM/AC – commented, saying:
“An outbreak of a virus of this magnitude made it reaching Wales inevitable. We can, and must, take individual responsibility to try to keep ourselves – and by extension those in our families, schools, workplaces, and communities – well.
“The common-sense advice is the same as during the ‘flu and cold season: catch it, bin it, kill it.
“So, to protect against infection, wash your hands frequently with soap and water or a sanitiser gel. Catch coughs and sneezes with tissues, which should be thrown away immediately afterwards, and wash your hands after disposing of tissues. Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, and avoid close contact with people who are unwell.”
