Charity brings ‘Dig for Victory’ to 100th Royal Welsh Show
Social Farms & Gardens, Royal Welsh Show – Educational Trade Stand
Social Farms & Gardens is pleased to announce it will be hosting an interactive, thought to provoke educational stand at the Royal Welsh Show for a fourth year in a row. This year promises to the best yet with a wide range of activities, guests and displays as the Royal Welsh Show celebrates its 100th year.
The Social Farms & Gardens stand and the garden is located at CCA772 in the heart of the Countryside Care Area.
Their theme for the week is bringing Dig for Victory into 2019. The key messages of this campaign are relevant today more than ever as we face uncertainty surrounding; Brexit, declining biodiversity and social – health & wellbeing issues, and also as the Welsh Government makes its climate emergency declaration. Self-sufficiency, environmental improvements, short supply chains and improved food systems are key to the future of Wales. During the Royal Welsh Show they will be encouraging farmers, decision makers and all people attending the show to pledge a series of small actions for a sustainable food future – by growing, buying, eating, connecting and sharing, in a more sustainable way.
Here is the full list of activities from Social Farms & Gardens:
Monday 22nd the charity will host Clynfyw Care Farm and showcase the amazing work of care farms across Wales.
Tuesday 23rd they will partner with Renew Wales to highlight all things around climate change and sustainability.
Wednesday 24th they will celebrate the partnership and work of the Community Land Advisory Service Cymru (CLAS Cymru) and the Green Flag Wales Community Awards. Social Farms & Gardens will welcome guests from the Friends of Mayhill Washing Lake and Llanfrechfa Grange Walled Garden Community as they receive their Green Flag Community Awards. Rachel Palmer a CLAS Cymru fieldworker will also provide lots of foraging activities so people can try their hand at identifying various plants.
Thursday 25th Social Farms & Gardens will conclude the week in style with a celebration of Community Supported Agriculture. They will host Banc Organics, Cow Tan, the Land Workers Alliance and Seed Sovereignty UK, and Isla Horton from Grow Cardiff will provide activities that encourage pollinator friendly planting.
