Welsh Government to introduce relationships and sexuality education for pupils aged five
The Welsh Government has announced that it will be updating the current guidance for schools so it will now be statutory for pupils to start Relationships and Sexuality education at the age of five.
Commenting on today's statement by the Cabinet Secretary, Darren Millar AM, said:
‘While I welcome a greater focus on the quality of relationship and sex education we must ensure that the innocence of children in Wales is protected from unnecessary exposure to inappropriate information at an early age.
‘The parental right to withdraw pupils from lessons on this sensitive subject must continue to be respected and we need to ensure that there are safeguards to ensure that parents are informed in advance of any proposed education sessions.’
