Prosecution by council over waste dumping sees business fined £35k

A business in Brent has been ordered to pay more than £36,000 in fines and costs after being found guilty of illegally dumping waste on a number of occasions.

Ommegas Services Limited, of 270 Church Lane in Kingsbury, was found guilty at Willesden Magistrates Court on 10 April 2018.

It has been told to pay a fine of £35,000, costs of £1,402.50 and a victim surcharge of £170.

Officers from the London Borough of Brent took action after complaints from nearby residents about the rubbish. A search of the evidence led them to Ommegas Services.

The court heard how the company ignored multiple warnings from Brent's Enviro-Crime Enforcement team, including a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice, and continued to leave their waste on Church Lane.

The council described the fine imposed on the defendant as a record.

Dennis Lewis, Enviro-Crime Enforcement Manager at Brent Council, said: "The outcome of this case clearly demonstrates just how utterly unacceptable illegally dumping rubbish is in Brent and should serve as a stern warning to anyone who might consider doing the same. We will always pursue all avenues to hold the culprits to account.”
