Welsh Conservatives respond to £370 fall in spend per pupil

Welsh Conservatives have responded to research showing that school budgets in Wales have fallen by around £370 per pupil in six years.

Darren Millar AM, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Secretary, said:

“UK Government, with the agreement of Welsh Government, has introduced an historic funding floor which means that Wales now gets £1.20 for every £1 spent in England, putting to bed once and for all the decades-old complaint about underfunding in Wales.

“Education has been the responsibility of Welsh Labour for nearly two decades, and yet on their watch the attainment between the richest and poorest pupils continues to grow, while overall attainment continues to fall behind the rest of the UK.

“Education isn’t just about money. It’s about how you spend that money and developing a curriculum which helps students of all backgrounds reach their full potential while nurturing our most talented to compete with the best.”
