Abacare supports Bisto’s Open door Sunday campaign

STAFF at a care provider in Wales are getting behind a campaign to help battle loneliness in communities (May, 2017).

Abacare is supporting Bisto’s Open door Sunday campaign and is encouraging people to invite neighbours, especially the elderly, round for a roast in an attempt to boost community spirit.

Peter Angelides, CEO of the award-winning Abacare, which has offices in Rhondda Cynon Taf, said: “Last year we supported Bisto and Contact The Elderly’s Spare Chair Sunday campaign, which encouraged people to host lunch for a lonely person. Lots of people got involved so we have decided to support the next project, which aims to bring communities together.

“We want people across Wales to open their doors to their neighbours and the elderly in particular, to help combat loneliness. They could invite them round for lunch or even just a cup of tea. It could really make someone’s day and you could end up making a great new friend who you can share food and conversation with on a regular basis.

“Many of our carers are getting behind the project and opening their doors to their communities. We’d also love to see people from across Wales getting involved too, people can send us photos of their special guests via Facebook at http://on.fb.me/Yn4zmS or tweet us @visitAbacare.”

The campaign was created after the brand discovered 29% of people don’t say hello to their neighbours and half don’t know their neighbour’s name.

Helen Warren Piper, Marketing Director at Bisto, said: “We have had over 100 years of bringing people together around the dinner table, and continue to do so through the Bisto Together Project.

“Loneliness is a real problem in the UK and for older people specifically. The work that Contact the Elderly already does is proven to work and uplift the community as a whole.

“We have found a perfect partner in Contact the Elderly in driving forward our Together Project through the Open Door Sunday campaign and we are thrilled that Abacare is supporting the campaign in Wales to encourage people to open their doors to its elderly residents.”
