Rhigos Mountain Road statement
Due to queries regarding the detail of the £1.25M investment works to Rhigos Mountain Road the Council wishes to confirm the following:
A three-week road closure will be in place 24hrs a day from Monday 25th July with works being carried out over extended working hours in order to undertake the work as quickly as possible. The full road closures are required due to the size of the Asphalt laying vehicles – which are bigger than a single lane of traffic.
Unless there is prolonged, severe weather the road closures will run concurrently for the full 3 week period and the road closures are expected to be lifted on or around 14th August, with some traffic management remaining in place for a further week to finish off works.
During the works, approximately 6,000 tonnes of tarmac is being laid across around 9km of highway. Works have been on-going since April under traffic management to carry out preparatory works, including drainage and iron works adjustments, so that the re-surfacing can be carried out during the summer holidays, when traffic flow is less, reducing the disruption to the travelling public as much as possible.
