The improvements will include environmental work to the lake and enhancements to the Bowls Pavilion. The proposals have been brought forward by the three Local Councillors, in conjunction with the Friends of Aberdare Park Group, who are working with the Local Authority to enhance this popular public space.

Young people have already been flocking to the popular play area within the park, which recently benefitted from a major refurbishment.

County Borough Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of the Council said: “I have received strong representations over the past 12 months from the three Local Councillors for the Council to consider these improvements which have more recently been endorsed by the newly established Friends of Aberdare of Park.

"I recently visited the park with the Local Councillors and the ‘Friends’ to discuss their proposals.

“This £100,000 investment will deliver significant improvements to this very popular public park in Cynon Valley and is yet another example of how the Council is keen to enhance and improve leisure space for residents across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“In September the Park will play host to the largest cycling event in the UK, the Tour of Britain, acting as a start stage for the event as it passes through Wales."

County Borough Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet for Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure & Culture said: “This £100k investment is fantastic news and will deliver significant improvements to Aberdare Park, which is used and enjoyed by residents throughout the Cynon Valley and further afield.

“The children’s play area has recently benefitted from a £50k investment to install new play equipment and update the existing play facilities for the young people to enjoy.

"Over £20k will be spent on improving the environment by cleaning the lake and surrounding area; to ensure this focal point of the park is at its best.

"£11,000 will be spent on resurfacing sections of the footpaths within the park and almost £18,000 to improve the Bowls Pavilion, situated within the Park.

“The areas for investment have been highlighted by the Friends of Aberdare Park, working alongside myself and Ward colleagues for Aberdare West, Cllr Sharon Rees and Cllr John Davies.

"I would like to thank this group for their commitment and enthusiasm towards the Park which is such a valuable public asset to the community.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such a picturesque green space within Aberdare, it is somewhere that all residents are incredibly proud of and these enhancements will further improve this public space for all visitors who use and enjoy the area.”
