Welsh Conservatives oppose “woeful” budget
Welsh Conservatives have opposed the Welsh Government’s devastating budget proposals, following a debate and vote in the Senedd.
For the fourth time during this Assembly term, the Lib Dems have propped up a Labour budget.
The Welsh Government’s proposals fail to address years of Labour cuts to NHS funding, offer a poor deal to rural Wales, and – remarkably – increase spending on central services and administration
Shadow Finance Minister, Nick Ramsay AM, said:
“This woeful budget comprehensively fails to deal with the needs of the people of Wales.
“Labour Ministers, in recent years, have starved our NHS of one billion pounds.
“Welsh Conservatives have continually highlighted that any piecemeal, pre-election funding is an admission of failure as to the dangerous nature of previous funding settlements for our cherished NHS. Quite simply – it’s too little, too late.
“This budget also delivers another hammer blow for Wales’ rural communities, whilst Labour Ministers dutifully increase spending on themselves – via central services and administration.”
Commenting specifically on the Lib Dems’ support for the budget, Andrew RT Davies AM added:
“Liberal Democrats should be ashamed that they are propping up a budget which not only fails to prioritise frontline services, but enables a local government settlement which is deeply damaging for rural areas.
“Throughout this Assembly, both the Lib Dems and Plaid Cymru have been all too ready to do cosy little deals with Labour Ministers; inflicting savage cuts to our NHS in the process.”
