Welsh Labour Government “propaganda machine” in full swing ahead of May elections

The Welsh Labour Government’s ‘propaganda machine’ appears to be in full swing as the election approaches, new figures show.

A Written Assembly Question submitted by Andrew RT Davies AM has revealed that just 20 days into 2016 the Welsh Labour Government has spent £825,000 on advertising.

The total for 2015 was £6.5m but if spending continues at the current rate, it will top £15 million in 2016.

Welsh Conservative Leader, Andrew RT Davies, said Labour’s “propaganda machine” was now in full election mode.

He said:

“The closer we get to the election in May, the more Labour appear to be splashing the taxpayer’s money on propaganda.

“Advertising spend doubled in 2015, with more than £6 million spent advertising Labour’s policies and programmes – but it seems they’re on course to smash that total in 2016.

“Most Welsh families will be feeling the financial squeeze in January, coming off the back of the Christmas period; but not this Labour government, which has little or no regard for our money.

“Somehow Labour have managed to spend almost half a million pounds on TV advertising in just days – almost a fifth of the total over the last year.

“It’s pretty clear that Labour’s propaganda machine is in full election swing, which is a flagrant abuse of taxpayers’ money.”

Lee Canning, Wales’ Taxpayers’ Alliance co-ordinator, said:

“Taxpayers throughout Wales should be extremely concerned with this quite blatant abuse of public money.

“Whilst hard working families have their income threatened through job loses, the Welsh Government are using our money running publicity campaigns to secure their jobs in May.

“Welsh Taxpayers have had their trust abused, by the mismanagement of our hard earned money and it is time for this Welsh Government to realise that fact.”
