A report on Penygraig Junior School
The current performance of the school is good because: Although there are areas for development in writing, nearly all pupils generally make good progress in their literacy and numeracy skills and they apply these across the curriculum well Over the last four years by the end of the key stage, pupils’ performance in the core subjects at both the expected and higher levels has been generally above the average when compared to that in similar schools The gap in attainment and levels of attendance between pupils eligible for free school meals and their peers is narrowing Attendance is improving and the school has been in the higher 50% or top 25% of similar schools over the last three years Nearly all pupils behave extremely well Pupils’ contribution to the life of the school is outstanding The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum that stimulates and engages all pupils very effectively Teaching is consistently good with excellent features
