Reform Wales Shadow Energy Cabinet Minister Jason O’Connell MS has visited Hirwaun Power Station, where he received a briefing from the team on the facility and its role in supporting energy security.
The Hirwaun facility is owned and operated by Drax, one of the UK’s largest energy companies. The company has invested in flexible power generation in Wales and has plans for further projects, but uncertainty around grid connections is holding back major investment decisions.
Jason O’Connell MS said:
“Hirwaun Power Station is an important piece of national infrastructure and it was good to see first-hand the work being done to strengthen our energy security.
“Drax has already invested in Wales and has the potential to go further, but uncertainty around grid connections is holding back major investment decisions. That means lost investment, lost jobs and lost economic opportunities.
“Reform will urge the Welsh Government to work with National Grid and the UK Government to clear these blockers and accelerate projects that can deliver jobs, investment and greater energy security.”
