Residents living in the communities of Aberbargoed, Bargoed and New Tredegar can get the chance to help decide how £20 million will be spent to improve the lives of local people.

The 3 combined areas have been awarded £20 million of UK Government funding through the Pride in Place programme. This investment will support long-term regeneration in the area over the next 10 years and local people will play a central role in deciding how it is used.

A special Neighbourhood Board will be created to agree how the funds will be spent. John Williams has been appointed as the Chair of the Neighbourhood Board and the next steps will be agreeing the wider membership of the board.

Caerphilly county borough council is now inviting expressions of interest for board members representing the 3 local communities.

The board will lead on developing an investment plan, ensuring funding reflects local priorities and delivers meaningful, lasting change. This is a valuable opportunity for individuals who:

  • Are passionate about their local area
  • Want to represent their community’s views
  • Can commit time to help guide regeneration plans

The board is expected to begin work in July 2026, with its first task being to develop a strategy and investment plan for approval later this year.

John Williams said, “I would encourage anyone from within the 3 areas with a passion for improving their local community to apply. This is a chance to ensure the voices of local people are at the heart of how this significant investment is shaped and delivered going forward.”

The deadline for Expressions of Interest for Board Members is 7July 2026.
