Cabinet Minister for Health and Care visits Princess of Wales Hospital as orthopaedic team reaches major milestone

The Cabinet Minister for Health and Care, Mabon ap Gwynfor MS, visited the Princess of Wales Hospital this week to see how improvements to planned care services are helping patients receive treatment more quickly.

During the visit, the Cabinet Secretary toured the hospital’s elective orthopaedic hub and met with staff who are delivering enhanced services to reduce waiting times and increase surgical capacity.

The visit coincided with a major milestone for the hospital’s orthopaedic team, who have now completed 1,000 joint replacement (arthroplasty) procedures since the hub reopened in September.

The elective orthopaedic hub includes three dedicated operating theatres that are used exclusively for planned surgery. By protecting capacity for elective patients, the team can carry out more procedures while minimising disruption and delays.

This approach is already helping to improve access to treatment for patients waiting for orthopaedic surgery.

The milestone highlights the dedication and teamwork of staff across the service, who continue to go above and beyond to provide high-quality care for patients across CTM.
