Appeal for Help: Aberdare History Facebook Group Hacked

A beloved online community dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Aberdare is in crisis after its founder was locked out of his own group.

Tony Williams, the man behind the popular Facebook group “A Bit of Old Aberdare”, has issued an urgent appeal for help after the group was hacked, leaving him removed as admin and unable to access the community he built.

Tony’s Facebook page has long been regarded as one of the finest collections of historical photographs of Aberdare and the surrounding area, offering residents and those with roots in the town a precious window into its past. His dedication to gathering and sharing these images has made him a valued figure among local history enthusiasts.

In a recent post, Tony explained the situation:

“My Facebook Group A Bit of Old Aberdare has been hacked. I am no longer the admin of the group. I am not even a member — I have been removed from the group. I have reported it to Facebook and have had no response.”

The group currently has no admin, and Tony is appealing to members and the wider community to take action.

How You Can Help Tony

There are a few simple steps members of the public can take:

  1. Report the group to Facebook — flagging the situation may prompt a faster response from Facebook’s support team
  2. Look out for an admin link — if you see any notification or link inviting you to become admin of “A Bit of Old Aberdare,” respond to it, as this could help restore Tony’s access
  3. Share this story — the more people who are aware, the greater the pressure on Facebook to act

Tony’s archive of Aberdare photographs is considered by many to be an irreplaceable resource for local history. Losing control of the group would be a significant blow not just to Tony personally, but to the wider community that has cherished and contributed to it over the years.

If you can help, please act now — and spread the word.

If you have information or have been able to assist Tony, please share this post widely within the Aberdare community and beyond.

Feel free to copy and paste this anywhere — local community pages, other history groups, or anywhere people might be able to help Tony get his group back. I hope he gets it sorted soon! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
