Divers from Aberdare Comets Diving Club are celebrating again after receiving a funding boost of £5,400, which will help kit out their expanding squad with new club T-shirts, jackets, bags, and essential training gear.
As one of only two remaining diving clubs in Wales, Aberdare Comets continues to attract young athletes from across the region as the club continues to grow in both size and competition success. With over 40 members now training and competing across the UK and internationally, the need for updated, professional team kit has become increasingly important.
Looking to ease financial pressure on members and their families, the club approached local energy company Pennant Walters for support – and were delighted when funding of £5,400 was awarded to provide high-quality club kit for every diver.
Richard Huish, Chairman at Aberdare Comets Diving Club, said:
“Interest in diving is at an all-time high for us, and we’re extremely proud of the progress our young athletes are making. But as our club grows, so does the cost of ensuring everyone has the right equipment and kit to represent us at competitions across the UK and beyond.
“Team identity and presentation are really important for morale, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
“Thanks to this £5,400 funding from Pennant Walters, every member will benefit from smart new kit, including T-shirts, jackets, and bags, which will make a huge difference as we head into a busy year of events.”
The funding comes from Pennant Walters’ community fund linked to its Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm, a 9-turbine, 22MW project located near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Richard added:
“Support like this genuinely helps us remove barriers for young divers. The reaction from our members and their families has been fantastic, and everyone was thrilled when we shared the news. We’re incredibly grateful and excited for what the next season holds.”
Dale Hart, Managing Director at Pennant Walters, commented:
“Our community fund exists to support initiatives that make a positive impact locally. We’re delighted that this contribution will help provide new kit for the talented young athletes training with Aberdare Comets Diving Club.
“We wish the team every success for the year ahead.”
